At the age of 15, Keita participated in the 2000 ASAYAN Idol Contest. He beat out thousands of contestants and became the last male finalist. He then joined with two dancers from Sapporo, Ryuichi Ogata and Ryohei Chiba. Together, all three became w-inds. a boy idols group under the company, Flight Master/Pony Canyon.
